1600cc VW Air Cooled engines come in a few flavors. There is the single port, the dual port and the later fuel injected models. The horsepower is usually going to run around 50 to 60.



It may drive like it has more horsepower due to the broad torque range of the engine (if its in good shape) and the fact the early bugs were so light.

yes you are corect, a 69 flywheel will fit a 74 superbeetle. Althiugh you may have to grind down the valveas as they will stick about 16/1000 over. Try not to grind down the bushings on the engine mounts or you will have to replace all the hardware involved. Pour in a can of Liquid wrench in the crankcase thjis should givre you the clearence you need.

The book says between 50hp and 60 hp depending on year. Not sure why the year makes a difference unless it is the difference between the drag on a generator and alternator.
