Please could somebody tell me whether my car is a Mark III or Mark IV VW Golf?

Question

It was first registered in February 1998, but that's where the two types cross over. I need to know for fitting a Britax 123 car seat inside, as their website states that the seat belts are only just long enough on the Mark III.

1974-1984 - MKI

1985-1992 - MKII

1993-1998 - MKIII

1999-2006 - MKIV



The tenth digit of the VIN will tell you the model year (V=97, W=98, X=99). The MKIII's are boxier than the MKIV's. If you don't have access to the car, you can always check a sight like Autotrader.com and and compare how they look.

The Mark IV car was made from 1999-2005.

Your car is a Mark III.

look at the VIN plate under the bonnet.. will give you a good idea of the model, then you can work it out from that.

If you get the VIN from the chassis and phone VW they will be able to tell you ALL the details you need

The easiest way for a person who knows nothing about cars is to look at the indicators at the front of the Golf.



The Mk3 will have an indicator in a block in the bumper beneath the headlamp. It also will have an orange indicator on the wing.



The Mk4 will have the indicator fitted into the centre of the headlamp with a silver indicator on the front wings.

1998 won´t be a four - they are the very new ones 2004 or so onwards.

i think it is a ford anglia but i can't be sure until i check the tyre pressure ,
