I got a used 2000 jetta VR6 5SPD Manual with 61243 miles on it and i was on my way home after i got a sound system installed professionally at a place called Sound City 2 they used the wiring harnesses that i was gonna buy online so i could do it myself but then i was half way home and it stalled so i started again ans then it stalled again thank god i was almost home to where i could push it home. While restarting i caught a glimpse of words on the display on the instrument Panel that read EMISSION WORKSHOP! and now it will only stay started for about a second i have a feeling that it is my MAF sensor according to the research i have done SO PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!!!

ok so it starts up and dies? I know it sound funny but your trottle body need to reset.... you can only do that with a vw scanner or Vag Com. Do this disconnet your battery from both terminals + and -. Ok get a some wire and connect both the + and - together (NOT THE BATTERY TERMINAL) the terminal to the car for about a 1min then connect them back to the battery. Try starting now. I know for a fact that there is an update for the ecm at the dealer for a cat convert code that make the emissions workshop light come on and that would clear that or you man have a evap or vacuum problem. If you think the MAF is bad just unplug it and the ECM will go in to limp mode and the car should start.....

Walk backwards grasshopper. Go to the time before the light appeared. That is before the installation of the stereo. So rip out the stereo and undo the connections and see if the light comes on. If it doesn't, it is in your wiring where YFU. Makes sense, right? And it is the cheapest route to go..

The professionally installed does not mean squat. If they do not know what they are doing - they don't know. Period. Every car wiring is different.

I have seen where stereo installers have actually drilled int the gas tank! If the fault is an evap fault! Or charcoal canister!
